SoCal runs a board-level micro-soldering bench in Southern California and has photographed hardware for years. The reviews here are written by someone who fixes these parts down to the component, not just benchmarks them.
Component-level, not part-swapping
Most “repair” content stops at swapping whole parts. This doesn’t. SoCal works at the board level - micro-soldering, reballing BGAs, lifting and replacing individual VRAM modules and VRM components under a microscope. When a card is “dead,” that competence is the difference between a landfill and a working GPU.
That’s also why the reviews here are different. When you’ve had a hundred boards open, you know what actually fails on a model and when - not just how it benchmarks on day one.
The photography is the proof
The macro and teardown images across this site aren’t stock. They’re shot on the same bench where the repairs happen, with a background in photography that’s as deliberate as the soldering. The Workbench gallery is the visual record - failures up close, repairs in progress, boards before and after.
Why this site exists
Two reasons. First, anti-e-waste: the industry wants you to replace; a lot of hardware just needs a repair. Second, honesty: the verdict is never for sale. The bench & tools
